Common questions
- How much does it cost to mount a TV on the wall?
- The bracket and the wall decide it. A fixed bracket into timber studs behind plasterboard is the quick end; a full-motion arm into double brick, with the cables chased into the wall and a new power point behind the screen, is the other. We quote on sight of the wall and the TV, the number does not move afterwards, and the quote is free.
- Can you mount a TV on a brick or double-brick wall?
- Yes, and it is often a better wall than plasterboard. Solid brick takes sleeve anchors straight into the masonry, which will hold far more than the screen weighs. What changes is the time and the tooling: masonry drilling, dust control, and cable concealment that has to be surface-ducted or run through a cavity rather than chased through a stud bay.
- Can the cables be hidden inside the wall?
- In a plasterboard wall, almost always: HDMI and power are dropped inside the cavity to an outlet behind the console, so nothing shows between the screen and the furniture. In double brick or a rendered wall there is no cavity to drop through, so it is either a surface duct painted to match, or a chase cut and made good. We will tell you which one your wall is before you commit to a position.
- How high should the TV go?
- Lower than most people guess. Sit where you actually watch from and put the centre of the screen at eye level. For a sofa that usually lands the middle of the TV about 1.1 to 1.2 metres off the floor, which looks low on an empty wall and correct the moment you sit down. Over a fireplace is the common exception, and it is a compromise: it works if you can tilt the screen and if the mantel is not throwing heat.
- Do you supply the bracket?
- We can, and we carry fixed, tilting and full-motion brackets rated well past the screens they hold. If you already have one we will use it, provided it is rated for the TV and the fixings suit your wall: the brackets that come free in the box with a TV are usually fine for the screen and useless for the wall, and we would rather fit something we would put in our own house.
- How long does a TV wall mount take?
- A straightforward mount with tidy cabling is a morning. Add a new power point behind the screen, a soundbar to align and mount, and a chase through masonry, and it becomes most of a day. Ray does the whole thing himself and cleans up, so the answer is never "we will send someone back for the cabling next week".
