Projectors reward precision. A few centimetres of mounting position decide whether the image is square, sharp and the right size for your seats, and the room itself decides how good it can look. With forty years in audio and vision, Ray plans the throw distance, the screen, the light control and the sound together, so the picture and the speakers work as one system.
01What a projector install covers
- Room assessment: seating distance, ambient light, ceiling height and where the screen can go.
- Projector placement worked out from the throw ratio so the image fills the screen without digital keystone correction.
- Ceiling mounting into joists, with cable runs for power and HDMI hidden in the ceiling and wall.
- Fixed-frame, motorised drop-down or ambient-light-rejecting screens, matched to the room.
- Long HDMI runs done with the right cable or extender so 4K and HDR actually reach the projector.
- Picture calibration and setup of your sources, streaming boxes and remote.
- Surround sound or a soundbar integrated with the projector, so the sound comes from the screen.
02Projector or a big TV?
- Choose a projector if
- You want a 100 inch or larger picture, the room can be darkened, and the space is mainly for movies and sport nights.
- Choose a large TV if
- The room is bright, it is used all day, or you want the simplest everyday setup. Big TVs are now very good value.
- Do both
- A TV for daily viewing with a drop-down screen in front for movie night is a popular Sydney living-room solution.

03Common questions
Can you install a projector in a normal living room?
Yes. With a drop-down screen and the right projector, a living room becomes a cinema at night and goes back to normal by day.
Can the cables be hidden in the ceiling?
Yes. Power and HDMI are run through the ceiling and down the wall cavity so nothing hangs from the projector.
What screen size should I get?
It depends on your seating distance and the projector throw. Ray measures the room and recommends a size that fills your view without straining your eyes.
Do you supply the equipment?
Ray can recommend and source projectors, screens and speakers, or install equipment you already own.
